Mission:

United Marin Rising strives to engage Marin residents through education and social/ political actions to achieve social, environmental and economic justice and equity.

Description:

United Marin Rising is a new grassroots alliance, rising to defend and expand civil rights, women’s rights, environmental protections, disabled rights, housing, food security religious and constitutional freedoms. United Marin Rising aims to bring the power of our collective movement, coordinated with outreach and education efforts, to apply pressure and take action when needed. We are organizing for the long run, working in service to everyone, supporting culturally and ethnically diverse communities and their leaders from across Marin.

Purpose:

United Marin Rising is committed to educate and mobilize Marin organizations, community groups and individuals, and to facilitate resources that can build and sustain a people power movement in Marin County and beyond.

Shared Goals of the Alliance:

1. To serve some of the basic needs of the resistance movement in Marin.

2. To establish and sustain a cross-cultural, multi-generational, grassroots

social, environmental and economic justice movement in Marin.

3. To preserve or advance the interests and gains that have been made to achieve social, environmental and economic equity in Marin.

Structure & Purposes of Teams & Committees

Strategy & Facilitation Team:

The Strategy & Facilitation Team is composed of United Marin Rising core organizers: Elisabeth, James, Cesar, Jimmy, Craig; plus Co-ordinators of committees: one representative Co-ordinator from each of our eight committees, listed below; and a Treasurer & Secretary also. Working together to make things easy, the Strategy & Facilitation Team serves the entire UMR alliance, ensuring that the mission, purpose and goals of United Marin Rising are executed.

Information Team (Composed of 8 Committee Co-ordinators)

Communications Technology Committee - two (2) Co-ordinators

This committee is responsible for designing, maintaining & administrating communications tools:

1. a sharable data base for contacting individuals & group members of UMR

2. a comprehensive calendar of events to share with all UMR contacts

3. a website, Facebook page, social media, other media technologies

Research & Writing Committee – two (2) Co-ordinators

This committee is responsible for monitoring and researching up-to-date information about UMR’s selected social, environmental and economic justice issues. This committee is responsible for writing media press releases, editorials and position statements.

Outreach, Training & Education Committee - two (2) Co-ordinators

This committee is responsible for reaching out into Marin’s diverse communities to invite individuals & groups to engage with UMR. This committee will develop educational and training materials and resources for UMR’s selected outreach, training and educational events and activities. This committee is responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating community outreach, training and education opportunities to increase UMR’s visibility and membership/supporters.

Arts & Culture Committee - two (2) Co-ordinators

This committee is responsible for developing and gathering arts and culture-related resources for selected political/social action events and activities.

Action Team:

(Composed of 8 Committee Co-ordinators)

Volunteer & Membership Committee - two (2) Co-ordinators

This committee is responsible for relating to Volunteer members of UMR: welcoming, signing-up, orienting, and sustaining contact with all volunteer members.

Public & Private Events Committee - two (2) Co-ordinators

This committee is responsible for planning, coordinating and producing a wide variety of public and private events, selected by UMR Strategy & Facilitation Committee.

Rapid Response & Mobilization Committee- two (2) Co-ordinators

This committee is responsible for planning and coordinating UMR’s selected political/social mobilizing actions, including local “rapid response”, public gatherings, marches, rallies and other forms of community support and collective action.

Policy & Lobby Committee - two (2) Co-ordinators

This committee is responsible for writing policy recommendations and statements for UMR’s selected justice topics; and for planning, scheduling and coordinating meetings with local, regional, state and federal elected leaders for lobbying purposes.
